Has she got into Oxford based on academic achievement or publicity?

If she has I'll sit down.

Came here under the pretence that it was only whilst she recieved medical treatment for her horrific injuries, now here permanently.

Ticks a lot if boxes for Oxford, female, Muslim and a celebrity.

They must be rubbing their hands at the thought of the money that will follow from donors and sponsors.

She can't exactly go back to Pakistan, can she.

I think it's great that so many of her co religionists are hopping mad that she's still alive.

Backwards, goat loving, Thursday afternoon bumders that they are.

Good luck to her.

Why not?

She is Pakistani. Of course she needs to go home.

She is not an asylum seeker. Nor has she suffered persecution by hr government. She is not a refugee.

She was the victim of a criminal act of violence. There are millions of victims of violence all over the world. Tragic though her case is, it isn't remotely uncommon.

The assumption that victims of violence in poor countries should be given permanent residence in rich countries is utterly flawed. There are mass rapes, shootings, stabbings and looting going on as we speak in places like Somalia, CAR and northern Nigeria. Are all the victims to be put on a plane to London?

This is another Madeleine McCann. The media have turned one victim of an all too common crime among thousands into a celebrity, and as a result she has won a Nobel Prize, been given Canadian citizenship and written a best selling book.

The innumerable other victims of crimes just like the one she suffered get nothing. Nobody cares about them. That's what is wrong with this whole saga - the idea that idolising Malala is somehow standing up for women's rights.

It's more hideous virtue signallling, like all the statues of Nelson Mandela that have been put up all over the world.

We should honour our own heroes, not those of other countries. It appalls me that English people know more about Mandela than they do about E D Morel, a man who achieved just as much (if not more) for the freedom and human rights of Africans than Mandela. Where are the statues of him honouring his life and work?

Malala should be honoured in Pakistan, where her bravery in the face of Taliban violence is a remarkable act of defiance. But she has nothing whatever to do with the UK.

Maybe she visited Canada and vowed never to return. If so, I can empathise.

Yanks have some of the greatest college/Uni systems in the world... and yet you still get the elite come over to Oxbridge... saying that it's normally to get in the rowing squads....

I really don't understand why people get wound up about stuff like this.

Relax. Enjoy your life. Smile knowing you cannot change the world.

Plenty of time to be outraged when you're dead.

SS, you miss the implication by the first world droogs commenting on this who would still be where they are right now, doing what they're doing right now, even if they had been born into a family living in a village perched on the side of a mountain in the Hindu Kush.

I miss nothing mate. I just don't care. I used to get outraged at stuff in the news but it just made me unhappy so I stopped, life is so much better.

Life's too short to waste a single second of it on crap like this.

Speak for yourself. You belong on a peat bog munching porridge and kippers. Civilisation is clearly a foreign province for you - not getting brained by another club-wielding savage from the neighbouring clan is clearly the pinnacle of your cultural aspirations.

Me neither. I know there's always a handful of agitators on here who really don't give a shit but like to push their agenda. The ones who genuinely do get wound up must have blood pressure through the roof.
